Dialga Raid Guide: best Dialga counters in Pokemon GO

Dialga is a Tier 5 Legendary Raid Boss in Pokemon GO (48742 Combat Power). Best Dialga counters are strong Fighting types like Machamp, Hariyama, Breloom and strong Ground types like Groudon. Dialga is weak to Fighting and Ground moves. Dialga is not yet available in Pokemon GO.

Dialga can have the following CP values when caught in the post-raid capture encounter:

  • 2217 – 2307 CP in normal weather conditions
  • 2771 – 2884 CP  in Windy and Snow weather for weather boosts.

Dialga could theoretically be duoed by extremely lucky, level 40 teams of Machamps with Cloudy weather and best friend boosts. Trainers seeking a challenge, this is a interesting one for you. Beyond that, realistically 3-5 high level players can tackle a Dialga, and 6-20 lower level players can handle one.

Dialga Counters

The following Pokemon are considered to be best Dialga raid counters in Pokemon GO.

Dialga raid counters
WEAKNESS Fighting Ground BOOSTED BY Windy Snow
Supreme Dialga raid counters
Machamp Counter Fighting Dynamic Punch Fighting
It is a fact of life for Pokémon GO, if something is weak to fighting, Machamp will rear its head and go out swinging, boasting the highest neutral weather time to win over any other available counter to Dialga, save Hariyama with Draco Meteor and the glass cannon Breloom against non-Steel movesets.
Excellent Dialga raid counters
Hariyama Counter Fighting Dynamic Punch Fighting
Fat Machamp is never far behind, with a very similar time to win but less deaths, as is the usual due to its higher bulk but -25 attack. In fact, when Dialga rocks Draco Meteor, it will have a lower TTW (Time to Win) than Machamp.
Breloom Counter Fighting Dynamic Punch Fighting
Breloom is a glass cannon, and should be kept to a lead role in the fight. In any case where Dialga does not have Steel moves, it will have a faster time to win than even Machamp at the cost of more faints.
Lucario Counter Fighting Close Combat Fighting
For those lucky enough to hatch Riolu and get it up to a high level Lucario, this is your time to show off. Lucario has managed to fit in around Blaziken’s spot in the fighting meta, with this being a scenario where it improves on the fire chicken.
Blaziken Counter Fighting Focus Blast Fighting
Groudon Mud Shot Ground Earthquake Ground
Groudon’s usefulness cannot be understated here, in fact Groudon actually has as high, if not higher, times to win against Dialga when the weather is Sunny, and even placing in the top 6 when it isn’t, all while fainting significantly less than any other counter. Groudon is very worthwhile to use against Dialga.
Good Dialga raid counters
Time to win rises considerably from here, and these Pokémon are best kept to B-teams or used when a large group is active. Like almost any boss, it sometimes comes to strong generalists like Rayquaza and Salamence, although this becomes dangerous if it has a dragon moveset.

Rayquaza Dragon Tail Dragon Outrage Dragon

Dialga moves analysis

Fast Charge
  • Dragon Breath Dragon
  • Metal Claw Steel
  • Draco Meteor Dragon
  • Iron Head Steel
  • Thunder Electric
  • Draco Meteor is Dialga’s hardest move set. DM is a strong hitting move that benefits from STAB and deals neutral damage to all Fighting type counters. Be very careful when raiding a DM Dialga.
  • Iron Head is a Steel typed move with two bars, which makes it an interesting move to raid against. Basically, every time before a raid boss can perform a charge move, it flips a coin to determine if it will be used. IH is a two bar move, which means two opportunities for Dialga to do a quick move instead, but it also makes the battle a bit more random. Usually same difficulty as Thunder.
  • Thunder is Dialga’s lowest DPS move and there isn’t really a lot to worry about. Thunder is a one bar move with 100 damage and it’s the one you want in smaller groups

Weather Effects

Dialga will be boosted by Snow and Windy weather, while being more vulnerable in Sunny and Cloudy weather.

Weather Pro Con
Sunny Boosts Ground type attackers
Windy Allows a Level 25 Encounter from Weather Boost. Boosts Dialga’s Dragon Breath and Draco Meteor
Partly Cloudy
Cloudy Boosts Fighting attackers
Snow Allows a Level 25 Encounter from Weather Boost. Boosts Dialga’s Metal Claw and Iron Head
Rainy Boosts Dialga’s Thunder
